Metabolic Syndrome is a collection of risk factors that increase your likelihood of getting Cardio Vascular illnesses & Type 2 Diabetes. You are said to have Metabolic syndrome if you have 3 or more of these conditions Central Obesity: Waistline is above 40 inches (102 cm) for Men, above 35 inches (88 cm) for Women. High BP: Blood pressure above 130/80 mm Hg or on BP meds High Triglyceride: Triglyceride above 150 mg/dl (1.7 mmol/L) High Fasting Glucose: Fasting Glucose above 100 mg/dl (5.6 mmol/L) or on medication for the same. Low HDL: HDL levels below 40 mg/dl (1 mmol/L) for Women & below 50 mg/dl (1.3 mmol/L) for Men. It is also known as Syndrome X or Insulin Resistance Syndrome. The features of Metabolic Syndrome ate directly related to Insulin Resistance. Hence taking care of Insulin Resistance improves on Metabolic Syndrome as well. Steps to Prevent/Reverse Metabolic syndrome? Decrease Carbohydrate consumption Fasting Exercise (especially Resistance training) Cut out seed oil Limit/Avoid Alcohol & Smoking The Risk factors of having Metabolic syndrome are many, both directly & indirectly. While there are Age & Genetic factors that makes you more susceptible to Metabolic Syndrome, it is completely avoidable with the right diet & lifestyle.
